Don't get lazy. Pay attention to your web site and make sure it is functioning correctly for your needs. Your site should probably be updated when you shift direction or significantly grow the business.
How many times have you refreshed the graphics or content of your web site? Twice? Once? Not at all? Are you using the latest technologies on your site?
Internet-savvy businesses will refresh the content on their web sites regularly and will redesign their sites at least once a year.
It takes only a byte or two of dated information for visitors to conclude they've hit a dead end or landed on an orphaned site. Have you ever visited a site that didn't have a 'last updated' date at the bottom or a copyright year that is current? Have you ever visited a site that had an advertisement for an event that was in the past? Most people will assume that the site is no longer in use or that the business has gone away.
Is there a date on your web site?
This is 2008, does your web site look like it was built in 1998? Move your site into the new century.
Does your site provide a way for users to contact you easily by email?
Do you know how many people look at your web site? Do you have a hit counter and other analytical tools to let you know who is viewing your site?
How long ago did you look at your website to check the content, ensure that the links worked and that you could send yourself an email from your contact email link? Don't wait for your customers to tell you that your website or its links are not working. Schedule regular maintenance for your website to keep its content fresh and make sure that it is working properly.
